A practical collection
Cycling food and hydration
Connect bottle capacity, refill stops, food and indoor cooling to the ride you actually plan.
A bike can carry bottles, but a long gap between reliable stops still needs thought. Work out access before choosing a container and check how food will be stored and reached. Indoors, consider airflow and the room as well as what you drink. Keep a record of useful observations from a representative ride.
Start with a useful tool
Food plan or bottle plan first?
Think about the route and duration first, then coordinate both. Carbohydrate in a drink contributes to your fuel calculation, while suitable fluid contributes to a drink total. Neither should be counted twice. Rehearse the combined setup on a manageable ride before relying on it at an event.
