Who controls the data

HydrateWise is an independent service operated by Benjamin Dickman in the United Kingdom. Privacy questions, access requests and corrections can be submitted through benjamindickman.com.

Calculator and planner data

Calculator inputs are processed transiently to return an estimate and are not deliberately stored by the server. Dated drink entries, the latest calculated target, saved sweat-rate sessions and their optional labels and conditions, custom drinks, planner history, preferences, theme and privacy choices are stored locally on your device. The label, fuel, cost, bottle-conversion and race-card tools calculate in your browser. Rehearsal notes remain in the open page until you print or download them; refreshing clears them. Downloaded files are under your control. We do not operate an account database.

Optional local weather

If you choose “Use current weather”, your browser asks for location permission and sends latitude and longitude directly to Open-Meteo to retrieve current temperature and humidity. HydrateWise does not send the coordinates to its own server or store them in browser storage. The returned weather values may be cached on your device for up to six hours. You can instead enter conditions manually or leave weather adjustment off. Open-Meteo’s own privacy terms apply to its service.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics is disabled until you allow it. With consent, Google may process device, page, approximate location and usage information, including aggregate events such as calculator completion, use of optional calculator sections, resource downloads, widget-code copying and outbound product-link clicks. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw immediately on the Privacy preferences page. Site analytics events exclude calculator inputs, rehearsal notes, calculated values and local history. Page locations and referrers omit query strings and fragments, including values in shared planner links. Analytics is excluded from local previews and the embedded calculator.

Analytics may set cookies beginning _ga, commonly retained for up to two years. Withdrawal disables collection and removes accessible HydrateWise analytics cookies; browser controls can clear any remaining site data.

International processing and retention

Google may process analytics data outside the UK under its applicable transfer safeguards. Google controls its analytics retention and processing as described in its privacy documentation. Local planner data remains until you delete it or clear browser storage.

Amazon links can include an Associate tracking tag. Amazon may process data when you follow a link or make a purchase. Its own privacy terms apply. See our affiliate disclosure.

Your rights

Depending on the data involved, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
